OUR BODIES, OUR LIVES: Speak Out for Women's Rights

We demand abortion access for all and an end to rape culture!

UMass Boston courtyard, May 5th at 12 noon

The recent attacks on abortion rights are horrifying. H.R. 3, a bill introduced at the federal level, could subject rape survivors who need government funding for abortion to undergo “rape audits” by the IRS[1]. This bill would also prevent government funding from covering any part of a health care plan if the health care company offers abortion coverage to anyone. And it’s only one of an astounding number of anti-abortion attacks, with 916 anti-abortion measures introduced at the state level alone in the first three months of 2011.

Abortion is health care and health care is a right. All women have the right to decide whether and when to have children. When legal abortion access is restricted, women die in unsafe and illegal abortion procedures.

In terms of sexual violence, in the US every two minutes somebody is sexually assaulted[2]. But 15 out of 16 rapists will never spend a day in jail, partly due to victim blaming—the idea that a survivor has responsibility for the crime because of what she was wearing, where she was walking, etc.
No woman should be subject to sexual violence. No victim of sexual violence is at fault, no matter what the circumstances.

Come speak out for women’s rights on May 5th!
