The eyes of the world are on the Arab Spring: the wave of protests and revolutions sweeping the Middle East and North Africa. The revolution in Egypt, which shook the world and toppled the corrupt, brutal, and US-backed Hosni Mubarak dictatorship, is especially inspiring and continuing.
Egyptian socialist, activist, and journalist AHMED SHAWKI was in Cairo at the height of the mass occupation of Tahrir Square. He wrote for Socialist Worker and the International Socialist Review about the revolution -- the struggles of workers, the takeovers of neighborhoods by their residents, and the transformations of ordinary people as they took their lives and their society into their own hands.
On Thursday, April 14th, Ahmed will be speaking at UMass-Boston in the afternoon, and Jamaica Plain in the evening.
