NATIONAL DAY OF ACTION FOR OCCUPY OAKLAND AND THE OCCUPY MOVEMENT!

WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 2

On October 25th, Occupy Oakland was brutally attacked by riot police. One protester, Iraq veteran Scott Olson, remains in critical condition. But on Wednesday, thousands of protesters re-occupied Oscar Grant Plaza in courageous defiance of this attempt at repression. The Oakland General Assembly has called for a general strike on Wednesday, November 2nd. Given this call, and given the national attempt by mayors and police to repress and silence our movement, the Labor Outreach Committee of Occupy Wall Street is calling for a national day of action on November 2nd in solidarity with Occupy Oakland and in defense of the Occupy movement nationally. We urge students, labor, the unemployed and all members of the 99% to take action on that day to send a message that our movement will not be silenced.

The Occupy Movement is under attack as has been demonstrated in Oakland, Chicago, Providence and now Denver. As we experienced a couple of weeks ago, our brothers and sisters in other cities are being attacked for expressing their outrage against the mass wealth inequality between the rich 1% and the working class, the middle class and the poor who compose the 99%. This attack shows what side these mayors have chosen: the side of the 1%. But as we showed the world when we were attacked on the night of Oct. 10th, people in these cities are also resisting and saying that police brutality is not going to intimidate them against expressing their anger publicly.

We need to organize in solidarity to show the world that they are not alone, and that we will defend our encampment from any future attacks from Mayor Menino and the BPD.

Occupy UMass wants to go all out for Wednesday and join with the rest of the nation in organizing massive marches that include every worker, student, organization, and neighborhood of the 99%.
