Our capitalist consumer culture treats women’s bodies as objects to be matched up against an exacting (and racist) standard of physical beauty and thrown away. This ad manages to do both. And it’s not the only one. Outside of advertising, women don’t do much better. Female characters in film are often one-dimensional, existing only as a love/sex interest for the main (male) character. These cultural depictions come from a real world in which women continue to make 78¢ for every dollar men make. Come discuss all this and how to fight back against it.
